All told, the Quiet Corner got very lucky and escaped the major destruction that Hurricane Sandy unleashed on so many communities. While there are still widespread power outages in the towns of the Quiet Corner as of this posting (according to information from the CL&P map found here), a much more serious situation was averted due to the last minute Westward turn by Hurricane Sandy. Wind gusts reached upwards of 80 MPH+ in the Quiet Corner and the sixty year old Hemlock tree, shown in some of the pictures above, was no match for her fury. The tree, which stood at 500 Route 169 on a property owned by Woodstock Academy, fell directly between two houses, narrowly missing a direct hit which would have caused much more extensive property damage.
